XE Market Analysis: Asia - Jan 19, 2016

The dollar maintained a firmer footing in morning N.Y. trade on Tuesday, as Wall Street opened strong, and as oil prices steadied over the $30/bbl mark. This was not to last however, as crude prices later dipped under $2950, taking the dollar and stocks lower yet again. EUR-USD rallied from near 1.0865 at the open, later topping at 1.0936. USD-JPY failed to trade over 118.00, and eventually fell back into 117.35 as the risk backdrop deteriorated. Cable added to its long string of losses, touching 1.4129, levels last seen in 2009.
