Reports: Cellphone video recovered from Germanwings crash site shows plane's final moments

Germanwings-debris

A passenger or crewmember on board the doomed Germanwings Flight 9525 reportedly recorded a cellphone video in the final seconds before the crash. German and French media are reporting that investigators found the footage, which was unscathed, at the crash site.

German newspaper Bild and French magazine Paris Match describe the video as "chaotic." It's blurry and doesn't show any of the passengers' faces, according to the German paper. However, the audio is reportedly quite clear

Here's how Paris Match describes the footage:

The scene was so chaotic that it was hard to identify people, but the sounds of the screaming passengers made it perfectly clear that they were aware of what was about to happen to them. One can hear cries of “My God” in several languages. Metallic banging can also be heard more than three times, perhaps of the pilot trying to open the cockpit door with a heavy object. Towards the end, after a heavy shake, stronger than the others, the screaming intensifies. Then nothing. Read more...

It's a tough day for Trevor Noah, but every day is tough for comedians on Twitter

Trevornoah

Less than 24 hours after securing one of the coolest gigs on TV, Trevor Noah — Jon Stewart's Daily Show successor — found himself in hot water over some jokes he made on Twitter years ago

Because Internet

The content of six jokes made between 2009 and 2014 has been enough for Twitter to accuse Noah of anti-semitism, sexism and fat-shaming

But the one label the critics seem to be forgetting? Comedian on Twitter — a distinction that comes with the impossible expectation to be edgy enough to stand out on social media but digestible enough to achieve (or, in some cases, maintain) mainstream success. Read more...

While Indiana's 'religious freedom' law is under attack, many more are on the way

Mike-pence

Lawmakers in Arkansas will vote as soon as Thursday on a "religious freedom" bill similar to Indiana's much-criticized new law, part of a wave of legislation across the United States that critics say would allow discrimination against the LGBT community.

Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act is rooted in the federal law of the same name, which passed in 1993. Versions of that law have now been adopted in 20 states, but Indiana's, which caused a firestorm of boycotts and criticism, has a few key bits of language that separate it from the rest

All that glitters isn't (Apple) gold

Apple-watch1

The months-long guessing game over pricing for the Apple Watch came to an end earlier this month when CEO Tim Cook announced what, to many, was its most important spec. Whereas most smartwatches to date have hovered between the $200 and $300-mark, the cheapest Apple Watch — the aluminum Sport in the smaller 38mm case with entry-level band — will clock in at $350

It's not unusual for Apple products to fetch premium prices, but when it came time to reveal the price range for the gold Apple Watch Edition, even Cook seemed to want to put the topic behind him.

Rihanna Denies Dating Leonardo DiCaprio: Ain't Nobody Got Time for That!

It's been almost four months since we first learned that Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio hooked up during a party at the Playboy Mansion.

From there, a bumper crop of rumors emerged, ranging from the believable (Rihanna had a crush on Leo when she was a teenager.) to the sublimely ridiculous. (RIHANNA IS PREGNANT WITH LEO'S BABY!!! ZOMG!!!)

RiRi made the press rounds last week to promote her new kids' flick, Home, and naturally some random tabloid reporter broached the subject in the most absurd fashion imaginable. ("How does Rihanna DiCaprio sound to you?")

Ri being Ri, she shut that sh-t down with a quickness and put the Rihannardo rumors to rest once and for all.

"It sounds like you should stay away from the blogs because they will screw you every time," Rihanna told the reporter. (We're sure she meant to add, "Except for The Hollywood Gossip, of course!")

"I'm so busy right now that I just don't have a lot of time to offer a man, so it wouldn't even be fair to be thinking of pulling someone into this life.

"But if I did, he would have to be man enough to not be scared."

There you have it, Leo. You may have King of the World in the '90s, but there's a good chance you're just not man enough to hand with RiRi.
