Kaitlyn Bristowe: Trying to Be Positive About Britt Nilsson, Being Co-Bachelorette

As we all know by now, not one but two women, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson, were named The Bachelorette for the coming season on ABC.

In other words, they were squaring off for Chris Soules' heart on The Bachelor and now they're rivals once again, only for 24 additional men this time.

For Kaitlyn, who was all but confirmed as The Bachelorette since coming in third on Chris' season, this shocking turn of events has to be disheartening.

Or, as she put it more diplomatically on Monday's episode, less than ideal.

Host Chris Harrison heralded the twist as something everyone will be talking about, and for once, his hyperbole was accurate. For better or worse.

Sean Lowe called the move disgusting in a lengthy blog post, but at least publicly, Kaitlyn says she's trying to look at it as optimistically as she can.

"I'm trying to be really positive about the situation," Bristowe tells People.

"It's definitely not ideal, but it's an incredible opportunity. And if the outcome is me meeting the guy I spend the rest of my life with, then it is all worth it."

Sharing the spotlight with Britt was not something she saw coming. Nor did anyone else for that matter, after how she left The Bachelor. Britt included.

Nilsson, who weathered a firestorm of jealousy and drama during her tenure in The Bachelor house, says she's "grateful" to even be in the running.

"I don't know if they've ever had someone who has been controversial," Nilsson says. "I don't feel like I did anything wrong, but people dislike me."

"I don't really get that but it's true. So I'm super grateful."

As far as weighing in on the competition, which got fierce on The Bachelor and likely will again, Bristowe calls Britt Nilsson "a lovely human being."

Genuine? Or playing it close to the vest? It's unclear.

"She's a very positive, intelligent, nice girl," says Bristowe, once again being politically correct in noting, "at the end of the day, we're very different people."

Nilsson, for her part, says she's not exactly looking forward to this unexpected competition: "There are insecurities [for me] because I really like Kaitlyn!"

"She's very likable, and she's gorgeous obviously. Part of me is scared, but the more I think about it, [I realize] it's just going to be what it's going to be."

"If Kaitlyn's husband is in that group of men, then it's going to work out for her, and I'll go home and I'll have to be okay with that. But I'm excited!"

She certainly has little to lose at the onset.

It's a game-changing move, and a controversial one, to say the least, even if it isn't necessarily as nefarious or degrading as Sean Lowe seems to think.

Pitting the consensus fan favorite (Kaitlyn) against one of the most polarizing figures in recent years, but one who single guys will no doubt lust over?

Should be very interesting, indeed ...

And the Winner is?
