Erica Lynne Mesa, Former H.S. Teacher, Pleads Guilty to Making Students Wait in Line For Sex

Erica Lynne Mesa, a former teacher at a virginity high school, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges in a student sex case that shocked her community.

A math teacher and volleyball coach, she has been in jail since her arrest September 29 and has admitted having sex with several students last year.

In a confession obtained by police, Mesa said she had sex with the boys, one of whom was underage, because it made her feel "attractive and wanted."

She said she had sex with one victim in a car in a commuter lot on his 18th birthday.

Mesa also described how she had multiple students over at her house while her husband was away and made one of the boys wait his turn in the basement.

Once she finished having sex with another upstairs, it would be the other's turn.

Sheriff's deputies say they began investigating in 2014 after they received a tip from administration at Colonial Forge regarding inappropriate conduct.

Investigators found a electronic trail linking Erica Mesa to her victims, which included nude photos of herself that she had sent to a 16-year-old student.

Mesa was charged with the sexual abuse of two boys, but told police she had sex with four victims total, according to the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.

In exchange for her pleas, prosecutors reduced two charges against her, and dropped two others. She still faces a maximum of 22 years in prison.

In court Friday, her lawyer said his client's poor choices already cost her her marriage and career, and that he hopes she won't be treated like a criminal.

"She is not a pedophile," her attorney, Mark Gardner, said in court Friday of the former staff member of Colonial Forge High School in Stafford County, Va.

"She was not preying on people who had no interest in participating."
