The dollar was broadly lower in N.Y. trade on Thursday, with sentiment initially soured by much weaker trade prices. Jobless claims were in line with expectations, though an early Wall Street slump turned dollar sentiment negative. Stocks eventually recovered, though the USD remained under pressure, perhaps a position squaring gets a head start ahead of next week's FOMC meeting. EUR-USD opened near 1.1190, and made its way to 1.1295 highs in afternoon trade. USD-JPY meanwhile, opened over 121.00 though slipped to 120.46 lows into the London close.
