Egyptian official: Activist shot by police died because she was 'too thin'

Shaimaa el-Sabbagh, a 32-year-old Egyptian activist shot and killed on the streets of Cairo during a demonstration in January, died because she was "too thin," according to a spokesperson for the medical examiner


Her death during a peaceful protest on Jan. 24 was caught on camera, sparking protests and igniting international outrage over brutal police tactics.



In a televised interview on Saturday, a spokesman for the Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority said el-Sabbagh would not have died if she were not so thin, and that her body type contributed to her death. Read more...
